Does Massachusetts requires auto insurance?
Yes. Massachusetts does require that all vehicles be insured before the vehicle can be registered.
What is the difference between collision and comprehensive coverage?
Collison and Comprehensive coverage are physical damage coverage that will pay for damage to your vehicle. Collision will pay for a loss to your vehicle if you hit another vehicle or fixed object. Comprehensive coverage is often called other than collision coverage. This coverage will pay to repair your vehicle if it is damaged by most anything else such as fire, theft, flood, an object falling on it and collision with an animal. Comprehensive also pays for glass coverage. In Massachusetts the glass coverage often carries no deductible. In other states your Comprehensive deductible will apply to a glass loss.
How Much Auto Insurance Do I Need?
It is always advised that you carry as much automobile liability as you can afford.
What is meant by a "No Fault" state for auto insurance?
Many people ask what No Fault means in auto insurance. The only no fault coverage on your auto policy in Massachusetts is your Personal Injury Protection (PIP) coverage. This coverage pays for medical expenses, loss of services, lost wages and other expenses due to an accident regardless of fault.
If I use my vehicle for business purposes do I need a different type of policy?
Under your personal auto policy there are some instances where you can use your vehicle in business. There is a business use classification on the personal auto policy. Normally this is reserved for contractors who use their vehicles to carry their tools and supplies to and from job sites.
When do I add newly licensed operator to my Automobile Policy?
It is important to notify your insurance agent immediately to add a newly licensed driver.
Do I need to alert my auto insurance agent when I move?
It is important to notify your agent if you move because it could affect your policy rating. Insurance companies rate policies by garaging location. If you move to a different town, it will most likely affect your premium.
Why do insurance companies care about the odometer reading on my vehicle?
Insurance companies use annual mileage in their rating of a vehicle.
